RE: Selection of Graduate Student Representatives (2) to the Washington University Board of Trustees


This is to solicit applications for the position of two non-voting graduate student representatives to the Washington University Board of Trustees. The university-wide Professional and Graduate Student Coordinating Committee will select the finalists to be interviewed by a member of the Board of Trustees, who will then determine which two graduate students will serve in this important role in the coming year 2012-2013. All interested qualified graduate and professional students are encouraged to apply.

A graduate student representative to the Board of Trustees must be a full-time graduate or professional student in residence (May 2012 through May 2013), be in good academic standing, and able to make the time commitment necessary. In addition, it is important that the graduate student representative have knowledge of graduate study at Washington University, be articulate, be able to present a variety of opinions, have sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and hold the respect of peers, of the faculty, and others who know the graduate student representative.  The graduate student representative should also be willing to maintain close communication with the several graduate and professional student constituencies within the Washington University community, such as the Professional and Graduate Student Coordinating Committee (ProGradS) and the Graduate Professional Council (GPC).

APPLICATION PROCESS

1. Read all sections of the selection documents before you submit your online application.  If you have questions about the graduate student representative position, please contact the Dean's Office in your School (click on the Selection Committee link for a list of School Representatives on the ProGradS Selection Committee) or in The Liberman Graduate Center, Danforth University Center Room 300.

2. Complete all sections of your portion of the online application and submit by noon on Monday, February 20, 2012.

3. Check to make sure your application has two recommendation letters; at least one must be from a faculty member or administration representative of your School and a second from another member of the Washington University Community. Please ask your recommenders to use the online recommender forms and submit online by noon on February 20, 2012. NOTE: You should select recommenders who are familiar with your academic record and leadership activities. Members of the Professional and Graduate Student Coordinating Committee are not eligible to write recommendations.

4. It is your responsibility to check that your application file is complete. Your file should contain your completed on-line  application form, two page curriculum vitae or resume, your essay response and two completed recommendation forms from your recommenders. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

5. Interviews for graduate student finalists will take place on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 12:15 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Liberman Graduate Center to select nominees; please also hold Tuesday, April 3 from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. as an additional time for interviews if needed.  The nominees will then be interviewed by a member of the Washington University Board of Trustees on April 11, 2012 between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon.

Note: Meeting dates for Washington University Board of Trustees:  May 3-4, 2012, October 4-5, 2012; December 6-7, 2012; March 7-8, 2013; May 2-3. 2013. The meeting dates for ProGradS Committee will be available Fall 2012.
